Rooted in the Moment: Why I Don’t Plan Jewelry Collections 6 Months Ahead
Share
So, here’s the thing—
I know that conventional business wisdom says you should plan collections six, even nine months in advance. That you should forecast trends, map out color palettes, and strategize your launches like clockwork.
But I don’t live by a calendar. I live in the woods.
And the truth is, Divella Designs is inspired by what’s growing, changing, or fluttering by my studio window right now. The curve of a leaf, the tiny pinecones that drop along the trail out back, the sudden burst of wildflowers along my fence line—those are my mood boards.

It’s not that I’m unorganized (okay, sometimes I am). It’s that I’m responding—to nature, to texture, to the changing light in Vermont. Some weeks I’m drawn to the deep greens and coppery tones of moss and bark. Other times, it’s bright enamel work that wants to come to life, or the softness of impression textures made from a fern that I just spotted near the creek.
And honestly? That’s the beauty of one-of-a-kind, handmade work.
It doesn’t follow trends. It follows the seasons, the landscape, and those creative nudges that show up unexpectedly.

I may not be working months ahead—but I’m always fully present in what I create.
