A Tiny Pause at the Hummingbird Feeder
Share
I went outside to grab the hummingbird feeder so I could wash it and change the water, but someone else had claimed it first.
So I waited.
This tiny hummingbird stayed perched there for over a minute, just looking around. Not drinking. Not darting off. Just resting, watching, and taking in the morning from his little spot by the feeder.
It’s funny how something so small can stop you in your tracks.
Most of the time, hummingbirds feel like little flashes of motion — here and gone before you can fully register them. But every now and then, one pauses long enough to remind you that even the busiest little creatures need a quiet minute.
That’s one of the things I love most about living and working here in Vermont. The studio days are full of metal, tools, fire, polishing, packaging, and all the little details that go into handmade work. But just outside the door, there are these tiny moments happening all the time.
A bird at the feeder.
A flower finally opening.
A breeze moving through the trees.
A wild little visitor who decides your chores can wait.
And honestly? He was right.
The feeder still got washed. The water still got changed. But for that minute or so, I got to stand still too.
Sometimes the best part of the day is the thing that interrupts your plan.
