Maker's Minute - Dahlia Rose: A Stone That Blooms in Silver

The Story Behind the Stone

The Dahlia Rose composite stone comes from Colbaugh Processing, a family-owned lapidary business in Arizona that has been working with turquoise and composite materials for over 50 years. They are best known for their long-standing relationship with the Kingman Mine—one of the oldest and most historic turquoise mines in the United States.

Using byproducts from the Kingman Mine, Colbaugh creates composite stones that are not only stunning but also sustainable. The Dahlia Rose is one of their most eye-catching creations: a blend of vibrant magenta and soft rose hues, often laced with cream and natural matrix. Every stone is different, which means no two pieces of jewelry will ever be exactly alike.

Handmade sterling silver dangle earrings with floral link accents and round pink and red dahlia jasper stones, featuring botanical artisan design with romantic charm.

Why I Chose Dahlia Rose

Nature has always been at the heart of my designs, and when I first saw these stones, they immediately reminded me of petals—like a dahlia in full bloom. I love how the colors shift from deep, velvety red to light pink, with delicate patterns that feel almost botanical.

Each stone holds its own character. Some are bold and dramatic; others are soft and gentle. That individuality is what makes them so perfect for jewelry—your Dahlia Rose pendant or earrings will always be uniquely yours.

The Collection

This week, I’m featuring several sterling silver designs with Dahlia Rose stones:

  • Pendants with floral and leaf details, highlighting the stone’s natural beauty.

  • Earrings that let the color shine against the movement of silver.

  • One-of-a-kind necklaces where the setting complements the bloom-like patterns inside the stone.

Every piece comes with a microfiber pouch and a Sunshine polishing cloth, and as always, 5% of every sale supports the National Parks Conservation Association.

A Bloom That Lasts Forever

Flowers may fade, but the Dahlia Rose stone is a bloom that lasts. Whether you’re drawn to its bold colors or the story behind its creation, these pieces are a way to carry a little bit of desert history and nature’s artistry with you every day.
