The Story Behind the Dove Earrings

So, here’s the thing… I spend my mornings with coffee in hand, looking out at the flock of mourning doves that gather in my yard. Some days there are six, other days there are more than twenty — all puffed up, soft, gentle, and completely unbothered by the chaos of the world. Somewhere along the line, they became my favorite visitors. They’re calming. They’re steady. And honestly, they make my mornings better.

That’s what sparked these Dove Earrings.

How They Come to Life

I start with a small steel die that gives me the basic dove shape, and from there it becomes a very hands-on process. The metal goes through multiple stages — pressing, softening, pressing again — until the form feels just right. And then the real work begins.

Each dove is sawn out, refined, softened, and shaped by hand. Every curve of the wing and gentle line on the body is brought out slowly, with plenty of filing and sanding to get that quiet little character I love so much. They may be tiny, but they take time, and that’s part of what makes them special.

The posts are soldered on, and then everything is polished just enough to let the feather details glow without losing that soft, peaceful feel.

Why They Matter to Me

These earrings are my little love letter to the birds that keep me grounded. They’re simple on the surface, but there’s a lot of care tucked into each pair — the same way those doves bring a bit of steady, quiet comfort into my mornings.

And fun twist? These were the very earrings that caught the eye of WCAX and led to my upcoming “Made in Vermont” interview. Not bad for a couple of tiny silver birds.

If You’ve Been Thinking About Them

They’re available on my website, made right here in my Springfield studio, and 5% of every sale supports the National Parks Conservation Association.
A small piece with a whole lot of heart.
