The Beauty (and Challenge) of Custom Jewelry at Divella Designs

As a jewelry artist, most of my work is born from inspiration—shaped by nature, seasons, and the materials I love to work with. I don’t usually take on custom requests, but once in a while, a project comes along that speaks to me, and I decide to take on the challenge.

Recently, I was approached to create a pair of promise rings for a special couple. They had a vision: simple yet bold sterling silver bands, set with Montana sapphires, a gemstone known for its natural beauty and durability. It was an honor to bring their idea to life, but let me tell you—these rings were no easy feat!

Crafting Rings from Heavy Sterling Silver

Most rings I make are on the lighter side, but these were a whole different story. The silver was 2mm thick, which meant bending them into shape was like wrestling with a stubborn piece of metal (because, well… it was). My 68-year-old arthritic hands were definitely tested, but with persistence (and probably a few choice words), I got them formed.

Setting the Montana sapphires into the thick bands required precision, patience, and just the right amount of force—not too much, not too little. In the end, the result was worth the struggle. These rings are strong, bold, and built to last—just like the love they symbolize.

Custom Work at Divella Designs

While I don’t often advertise custom pieces, I do sometimes take on special requests if they align with my style and process. Each custom project is a collaboration—a blend of my artistic approach and the wearer’s personal story. I love creating meaningful pieces, but I also believe that jewelry should feel right in my hands as I make it.

So, if you’re ever wondering whether I take on custom work, the answer is… sometimes. If you have a request that resonates with my work, feel free to reach out—I just might say yes.
